Rivers State governor, Siminalayi Fubara has urged the Nigerians military to resist being partisan during the forthcoming off-circle election in the designated States but provide security that will allow the people to vote their choices freely.
Governor Fubara gave the charge when the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa paid him a courtesy visit at Government House in Port Harcourt
The governor expressed the belief in president Bola Tinubu as being interested in a free and fair election in those state wherein the will of electorate truly prevails.
According to the governor, it is because of that matching orders would have been given to the military to ensure that electorate are not intimidated during the exercise and the process not also truncated.
“The president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has his theme, which is Renewed Hope Agenda and I strongly believe that free and fair election are part of it.
“That is why he must have commissioned you to make sure that this off-circle election is conducted in a manner that will reflect that the people voted for who they want.
“So, I want to thank you for taking this pains going from one state to another having the election in couple of days to put the right things in place.
“I strongly believe that this off-circle election is going to be transparent and one of the best ever conducted.”
Governor Fubara also applauded the officers of the Army, Navy and Airforce for the various roles they have played in complimenting the efforts of the Nigerian Police to help with activities that have provided security of people in Rivers State.
On the recent political crisis that was experienced in Rivers State, governor Fubara described it as a family affairs and assure that whatever the issues were, they will be resolved amicably.
In his speech, Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa said he was in Rivers as part of tour to States where off-circle election is scheduled to take place, including other States in the region, to charge officers to maintain the peace and ensure a rancour free election without intimidation of the electorate.
He promised an unalloyed cooperation and partnership with the Rivers State government to tackle oil theft and work towards improving the national economy by protecting national assets.
