The Delta Broadcasting Service DBS, Asaba has repositioned it’s management staff for greater productivity, as it organised a two day capacity building workshop for top management staff
The training is at the instance of the DBS Asaba, in collaboration with the Hospitrane Nigeria Limited.
Addressing participants, the State Commissioner for Works, Rural and Riverine Roads, Mr Charles Aniagwu called on the participants to put in their best, to enable the station fulfil its mandate effectively.
Mr Aniagwu who was special guest of honour at the event, charged the staff to ensure that the station was on air continually, saying only then could it be said to be fulfilling its role as a mass communicator.
He harped on the importance of maintaining protocol in the chain of communication, saying for no reason must the channel be breached, in the hierarchy of the system.
The former information commissioner called for the enforcement of discipline in the system, enjoining the leaders to be careful of the examples they were setting for the younger ones.
He commended the General Manager of the DBS Asaba Mrs Kristine Emetulu for the initiative of the training workshop for management staff, which was the first of its kind.
The functioning Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Mr Lucky Omokri who chaired the occasion, underscored the essence of training and retraining, particularly in the broadcast industry, which was becoming increasingly competitive.
He urged the participants to let the knowledge they would gain, reflect in increased output and better services to the public.
The General Manger of the DBS Asaba, Mrs. Kristine Emetulu in her welcome address said the programme was aimed at refreshing the management team on their roles as leaders, to function better and deliver in the best way possible, the station’s role in bridging the communication gap between the government and the people, through effective dissemination of governments policies and programmes.
Mrs. Emetulu pledged that such training for management and staff would be carried out periodically, to maximize the organizational performance of the Broadcast outfit.
The DBS General Manager solicited the assistance of the State Government in the provision of new television transmitters and state of the art cameras, among other technological facilities, to boost the transmission and reach of the station, towards effectively fulfilling its mandate.
Giving an overview of Disciplinary measures in the Public Service, the Director, Administration, in the ministry of Information, Pastor Emmanuel Okubio, stressed the necessity of implementing discipline to check excesses, and ensure that bad eggs who did not mean well for the service, were removed from the system.
Pastor Okubio tasked the management staff to be knowledgeable and abreast with civil Service rules; have regular meetings with staff; avoid breaking hierarchy in the chain of communication, and enforce discipline and good conduct at all times.
The managing Director, Hospitrane Nigeria Limited, Pastor Afolabi Adun drilled the participants in basic principles of management and administration; work ethics; professionalism; enforcing discipline; and people management, among other topics.
The head of the News and Current Affairs Department Mrs Mercy Muemuifo in a vote of thanks on behalf of the management of the station, expressed gratitude to the facilitators and resource persons for the insightful and enlightening topics which she said would go a long way in improving the performance of staff, and their increasing output.
The General Manager Mrs Kristine Emetulu and other management staff in an interview expressed satisfaction with the training which they said was timely.
The two day workshop is being attended by heads of the various departments and units in the station, among other senior officials.
