Delta State Government promises to clamp down on enemies of peace…

Following the unruly behaviour of some residents of Asaba and neighbouring communities, the Delta State Government has advised keke and okada riders of Hausa extraction to avoid acts capable of breaching peace and harmony in the State.

The call was made by the Chairman, Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Alhaji Anwalu Tukur and the Special Assistant to the Governor on Hausa Affairs, Alhaji Muktar Usman while addressing keke and motorcycle riders of Hausa origin in different parts of the state capital.

Alhaji Tukur and Alhaji Usman said the sensitization was in line with the directive handed over to them by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori over the unwholesome actions of some Keke and okada riders in Asaba metropolis.

Areas visited included cable point, Jarret, Abraka, Oko market, Koka flyover, airport and Akpu junction, Okpanam city gate, Anwai as well as midwifery junction.

They warned the people that government was ready to invoke the full weight of the law on anyone that contravened the law, stressing that any act of hooliganism and ruthlessness will no longer be tolerated.

The Governor’s aides announced that messages have been sent to Chief Imams and other Muslim Clerics in the state on the urgent need to caution its adherents to be law abiding and keep at bay anything capable of breeding rang out and acrimony.

Alhaji Tukur equally advised the people to report to the police any misunderstanding adding that resorting to reprisal attacks was counterproductive.

He lauded Deltans for their love for the Arewa Community and pledged the readiness of the people to promote peace and overall growth of the State.

Some of the people who spoke at the various places visited condemned any act that could threaten the peace of the State promising to fish out anyone that contravenes the law.

They commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his giant strides since May 29, 2023 till date as well as including some of them in his administration.
