Delta Varsity VC, Prof Egwunyenga to Chair the Anioma Watch Annual Lecture, Ubulu-Unor Royal Father, Omu Anioma Others Confirm their Presence

There are indications that the maiden edition of the Anioma Legacy Lecture, expected to be held in Asaba, Delta State capital will be chaired by Prof Andy Ogochukwu Egwunyenga, the Vice-Chancellor of the Delta State University, Abraka.

This indication emerged yesterday from the Chairman of the Planning Committee, Mr. Dumebi Ohawunsi. Ohawunsi, the former Secretary of the Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State said that all arrangements have been put in place to enable the Anioma people to come together and participate in the public lecture programme.

HRM Obi Henry Kikachukwu, JP, Ph.D., who doubles as the Obi of Ubulu-Unor and 2nd Vice-Chairman of the Delta State Traditional Council will also grace the occasion as the Royal Father of the Day while HRM Obi Martha Dunkwu, the Omu of Okpanam/Anioma and Nneoha (Mother without Border) is the Royal Mother of the Day.

Other attendees expected to grace the occasion include HRM Obi (Lt. Col) retd Ignatius Izedunor Onyema II, the Obi of Isheagu, Obi Josephine Isioma Nwannabuogwu, Omu of Ibusa, Comrade Enudi Marcus, the President-General of the Anioma Youth Council Worldwide who is attending the event as the Special Guest of Honour. National President of
Anioma Youth Forum worldwide, Publisher of Anioma Trust Newspaper, Comrade Patrick Ochei, and several President-Generals of the Town Union of Anioma communities have also confirmed their presence.

Speakers at the event are ace Nigerian Journalist and multiple award winner, Sir Anthony Awunor who will speak on the topic, “Preservation of Anioma Ancestral Heritage: A Fresh Look at the Indiscriminate Sale of Land.” USA-based Hon Engr Sir Tony Nammor to speak on “The Man: Rev Fr. Dr. Kunirum Osia, His Memorial Ideals and Determined Pursuit of Anioma Selfhood in Contemporary Nigeria” while Deacon Fidelis Chimokwu’s topic is “Leadership Cultivation: Imperative Recipe for Socio-Political and Economic Advancement of Anioma Nation.”

Recall that PEN MASTER had earlier reported that international orchestra singer; Angela Loks, gospel singer, Ordy Kris, and R&B musician, Ayaya Mog were billed to perform at the event.

On the cultural front, Umu Oma Dancing Group of Ibusa with other troupes will also perform while MC Funny Mouth will provide the Anioma audience comedy among other entertainments packaged for the Anioma audience.

“Although listening to public lectures is something our Anioma people are not so familiar with, we want to change the narrative and in doing this, advance our Anioma area,” the Planning Committee Chairman, Mr Ohawunsi hinted.

“We are confident that our people will turn out in large number to witness this great occasion.”

“This not a political event there’s no political affiliation to any politician or party. It is a public lecture in which everyone will sit down to become enlightened on what the speakers have to tell us about our societal affairs.”

The event organized by Anioma Watch Social Association will be held inside the Orchid Hotel in Asaba on Dec 22, 2023, and the time is 11 am and a great number of other Anioma indigenes are expected to grace the occasion.
