The Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara has assured residents of the state that his administration will continue to embark on activities that will sustain the hope of the people.
Governor Fubara gave the assurance on Tuesday during the launch of the Emblem Appeal Fund to kickstart the 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration.
The event held at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Port Harcourt, the state capital.
The Governor stressed the importance of hope in the life of humans, saying that such was the reason president Bola Tinubu chose the “Renewed Hope Agenda” mantra aimed at restoring lost hope in Nigerians by improving the nation’s economy.
He expressed appreciation to the war veterans, both fallen and living, for their sacrifices which he said have kept Nigeria united.
While launching the emblem with the sum of N30M on behalf of the State government, Governor Fubara promised to redeem the financial grant made by the immediate past administration to the Legion, and assured that some of their children would be offered employment.
He urged the leadership of the Nigerian legion to liaise with the office of the Secretary to the Rivers State Government to finalise the list of children of legionaries to be employed into the state civil service with each local government area to be represented.
The Secretary to the Rivers State Government (SSG), Tammy Danagogo, in his remarks said war veterans, fallen and living, had shown greater love in defending the territorial sovereignty of Nigeria and ensuring its citizens live in peace.
The Chairman, Rivers State Command of the Nigerian Legion, Area Controller General, (ACG) Rev.Canon Charles Hart said the emblem appeal launch event kick-starts 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration to honour military officers who had paid the supreme price for the enthronement and sustenance of peace, unity and freedom of the country.
