HERITAGE BANK PLC SAGA: Depositors Yet to Get Their Funds

Since the Central Bank of Nigeria CBN revoked the Banking Licence of Heritage Bank Plc, depositors have continued to lament.

In an interview with NIM, some depositors recounted how they had visited the bank upon hearing about the revoking of the licence.

A respondent who gave his name as Chioma, said Heritage Bank was her salary account and she had not been to complete transactions or make cash withdrawals on her bank accounts for the past months, as the bank kept putting withdrawal limit at #10,000.

She said she had visited the bank when she heard of the Federal Government’s directive, and was told by officials that her money would be paid directly to any of her other bank accounts, as long as she had a BVN.

Chioma said she was asked not to fill the form but wait until she receives alert, and expressed worry that she was yet to receive any alert since then.

She called on the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), the corporation that has since taken over the defunct bank, since its appointment by the CBN to be the liquidator, to protect depositors’ funds and speedy the process of returning funds to depositors as tension was high.
