
The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria ALGON, Delta State Chapter says workers in the 25 local government councils in the state would receive ten thousand naira each as palliative to cushion the effects of the fuel subsidy removal.
Delta State chairman of ALGON, Hon Victor Ebonka who doubles as the Chairman of Ika North-East Local Government Area of the state, confirmed this to NIM in a telephone conversation.
Hon Ebonka said arrangements had been put in place to start implementing the palliative for local government council workers in the state with effect from this month in line with the directive of the state Governor, Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.
He said local government workers would receive ten thousand naira monthly for three months, adding that workers in various local government councils would also, run shifts like their counterparts at the state level,
The ALGON boss stated that workers at the council level including the Local Education Authority (LEA) workers and the primary school teachers as well as their support staff, would all benefit from the palliative packages.
For the loan facility sort by the ALGON to offset the pensioners in various councils, he said by the end of August, the body will be able to access the funds for the payment.
On teachers and support staff recruitment in primary schools in the state, Hon Ebonka said the recruitment exercise was already on, adding that those qualified would soon be invited for interviews.
