President of Benin Republic, Mr Patrice Talon is meeting with President Bola Tinubu in Abuja on Thursday to discuss the coup attempt in Niger Republic.
The meeting came after President Tinubu condemned the coup attempt in a statement.
He said that ECOWAS is closely monitoring the situation in Niger and will do everything within its power to ensure democracy is firmly planted, nurtured, and thrives in the region.
President Tinubu who is also the chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), noted that he is in close consultation with other leaders in the region and that they are committed to protecting their hard-earned democracy in line with the universally acceptable principle of constitutionalism.
Report says presidential Guard in Niger have continued to hold President Mohamed Bazoum inside the presidential palace in Niamey, the country’s capital.
