
A Bill for a law to establish the Delta State Merits Scheme today passed through first reading on the floor of the Delta State House of Assembly.
Granted leave by the House the Majority Leader Honourable Emeka Nwaobi in a motion moved to bring before the House a Bill for a law to establish the Delta State Merits Awards Scheme which is to specify among other things, the privileges of the recipient.
Being the first private Bill of the 8th Assembly, the motion was seconded by the member representing Ika North East constituency Honourable Merilyn Okowa-Daramola.
Second reading for the Bill was deferred to October 13.
Also at plenary, the House screened and confirmed Mrs Endurance Ibru for appointment as member of the Governing Board of the Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency.
At Committee of the Whole Chaired by the Speaker Honourable Emomotimi Guwor, the nominee was asked to take a bow.
The Majority Leader then moved for her confirmation seconded by the member representing Isoko North constituency Honourable Bernard Odior
Mrs Ibru was among the nominees whose names where sent to State Assembly by governor Sheriff Oberevwori for appointment as member of the governing board of the Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency, but was unavoidable absent at the initial date for their screening.
Meanwhile, the Majority Leader on behalf of other lawmakers, congratulated the Speaker for his emergence as Treasurer of the conference of Speakers.
