NLC: We Want Palliatives In Delta State –Ofobruku Roars

The Chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress, Delta State, Comrade Goodluck Ofobruku has called on the State Government to provide palliatives for its workers to cushion the effect of the hike in food and transportation fares occasioned by the fuel subsidy removal.

Comrade Ofobruku stated this when he led workers in the state to the Government House Asaba to lodge their grievances.

He wondered why the state Government had maintained silence over the issue of palliative, when other governors were rolling out measures to ameliorate the sufferings of their workers.

The Labour leader emphasized that the Union was aware of the amount Delta State received from FAAC and urged the government to brace up to its responsibilities and make life easy for workers.

Comrade Ofobruku flanked by chairmen of other affiliate Unions, presented their letter of demand to the State Governor and urged him to pass their message to the president.

Responding, the Senior Policy Adviser to the State Governor, Hon. Funkekeme Solomon said the issues raised by labour were not peculiar to workers alone, but all Nigerians, assuring that the Organized Labour in the state would be invited for talks concerning palliatives for workers, at the appropriate time.

NIM correspondent reports that the protest by the NLC was carried out nationwide with massive turnout of workers who marched through the streets, carrying placards with various inscriptions to drive home their demand.
