The Governor of Delta state, Honourable Sheriff Oborevwori says his administration will carry out a comprehensive audit of physical infrastructures in primary and secondary schools in the state.
Honourable Oborevwori disclosed this during the commissioning of the Teachers and Staff Quarters in Olomoro Comprehensive High School, Olomoro in Isoko South Local Government Area.
The quarters was constructed by the Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS.
The governor represented by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme said the audit of physical infrastructures in primary and secondary schools in the state is for government to identify and address areas where there are gaps, to enhance educational development.
Governor Oborevwori said as part of efforts to address the manpower shortages in schools across the state, he had given approval for the recruitment of teachers in twenty two local government councils.
He said at least two thousand teachers are expected to be gainfully employed in the ongoing recruitment exercise for primary schools in the state.
The governor reiterated that his administration would initiate and encourage periodic curriculum revision for learning, critical thinking skills, independent learning skills,team work and leadership, as that would help students acquire requisite skills and knowledge to function in the society.
He commended the Federal Inland Revenue Service for embarking on the project as parts of its corporate social responsibility saying it would enhance the welfare of staff and teachers with the twenty two units of various types of accommodation.
While saying that the project would help to bridge the housing deficit in the country, Governor Oborevwori commended the Coordinating Director of Enforcement Support Group in the FIRS, Dr Dick Irri, for attracting the project to his community.
He appealed to the school authority to maintain the structures, promising to provide conducive learning environment in schools.
The Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service,Mr Muhammad Nami represented by the Coordinating Director, Digital and Innovation Support Group, Mrs Chiaka Ben -Obi said the agency gets four percent of taxes collected while ninety six percent is paid into the federation account which was shared by the federal, state and local governments.
He said the FIRS uses its four percent on development projects across the six geopolitical zones as part of its corporate social responsibility and appealed to the school authority to maintain the facility for maximum benefits.
The Coordinating Director, Enforcement Support Group, FIRS, Dr Dick Irri who attracted the project to Olomoro community, said it was part of a deliberate effort to contribute his quota to the development of education in the town.
The Chairman of the Isoko South Local Government Council, Honourable Victor Asasa represented by the Secretary to the Council, Mr Vantus Ogboghoro also thanked the FIRS for the quarters, saying it would further enhance the educational development of the students.
The Member representing Isoko South Two in the State House of Assembly, Honourable Ferguson Onwo said the project was a proof of the commitment of the FIRS to its corporate social responsibility and appealed for more development from the federal and state governments.
Others who spoke including the representative of Senator Joel Onowakpo, President General of the Isoko Development Union, Professor Christopher Akpotu, President General of Olomoro Community, Mr Emmanuel Oteri, the Principal of Olomoro Comprehensive High School, Olomoro, Mrs Florence Omoyibo, the President of the Olomoro Comprehensive High School Old Students Association, Mr John Oteri thanked the FIRS for the project.
The event featured the commissioning of the project and inspection of the facility.
The Deputy Governor had earlier visited the Odionlogbo of Olomoro Kingdom, Isaiah Edereke Isike 1, at his palace.
