Speaker of the Rivers state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewhule and his deputy, Dumle Maol, have been impeached.
Reports say the impeachment was by 8 lawmakers loyal to Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who sat in one of the buildings at the Government House, Port Harcourt.
They also announced the suspension of the Chief Judge of the State, Hon. Justice Samuel Chibuzor Amadi, and directed the governor to appoint an Acting Chief Judge for the state.
In a statement issued after the impeachment, the lawmakers said they had elected Hon. Edison Ehie, the impeached Leader of the House, as the new Speaker.
Meanwhile, Governor Fubara has congratulated Hon. Ehie on his emergence as the new Speaker of the House.
