The importance of renewable energy in addressing issues of climate change was the fulcrum of a one-day implant seminar/workshop organised for officers on salary grade level 01-09 of the ministry of Energy in Delta State.

Declaring the event open, the State Commissioner for Energy, Engr Jerry Ehiwario, said the Workshop is aimed at enlightening staff on the goals of Renewable Energy in improving the Electrification rate as well as replacing existing sources of Energy that are not climate friendly in the State, Nigeria and the world at large.

Engr. Ehiwario stated that the immediate past administration of the state led by Senator Ifeanyi Okowa had done a lot of Renewable Energy related projects across the state, including the 8.5MW Independent Power Plant at Asaba and approved 2.5MW at Owa – Alero, and stressed the need to develop more in the present administration.

He said it was vital for staff of the Ministry to be abreast with happenings on Renewable Energy globally so as to perform their duties effectively and efficiently, hence the Seminar/Workshop on “Renewable Energy”.

The Commissioner described the event as apt in positioning the staff for efficient service delivery, bearing in mind that majority of them would be involved in the execution of the targeted Renewable Energy projects at different levels, in the state.

Participants thanked the state Government for the training and assured the Commissioner of their readiness to put the knowledge gained into good use.
