The Delta state commissioner for Girl Child Entrepreneurship and Humanitarian Support Services, Orode Uduaghan today received members of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, in her office, with a call on them to remain supportive of the Sheriff Oborevwori administration.
Uduaghan acknowledged the role played by the Red Cross Society across the globe, and urged the group not to relent in their efforts
She thanked the group for the visit and promised to maintain an open door policy, in working for the actualization of the MORE agenda of the present administration.
The Branch Secretary and Chief Executive Officer, Nigerian Red Cross Society, Delta State Branch, Mr. Charles O. Arinomor said the Society had over time played significant role in rendering Humanitarian Services in the State in collaboration with the State Government through the office of the Secretary to the State Government, Directorate of Humanitarian Affairs and Community Support Services, SEMA, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Water Resources, Ministry of Environment, Political and Security Services.
Mr. Arinomor recalled the various areas the Red Cross had partnered with the state Government in providing succour over the years, saying that they enjoyed the support of a former Governor of the state, Dr. Emmanel Ewetan, who is also the father of the Commissioner.
He expressed the gratitude of the branch to the state governor, Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori for providing a conducive atmosphere for the Red Cross to carry out their mandate.
The Branch chairman said as part of activities of the Red Cross to provide relief to victims of the 2022 flood disaster, the Branch, with the support from its partners are in the process of rehabilitating over one hundred (100) shelters and water points destroyed by the flood and distributing hygiene/ sanitary kits, in addition to a Cash Voucher Assistance to One Thousand and Fifty (1,050) Households, all in in Isoko South, Ughelli South and Ndokwa East Local Government Areas of the State.
Mr. Arinomor noted that the Red Cross with support from movement partners and NIMET advice, has mapped out Bomadi, Isoko North and Patani local government areas for major Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Disaster Response program in the Simplified Early action Protocol (SEAP) for 2023.
The group sought the ministrys support in areas including economic security for women, legal support for vulnerable households, formal engagement of Red Cross Volunteers through the branch secretariat during state functions under the Ministry’s purview, and general support to the Red Cross.
