Football Related Deaths; Avoid Next Sunday’s AFCON Match IF….Emeyazia appeals to Nigerians

The Secretary, Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, South South, Comrade Eunice Emeyazia has appealed to Nigerians having serious heart related issues not to watch the live transmission of the final match of the African Cup of Nations, scheduled for Sunday, next week.

Comrade Emeyazia made the appeal while speaking to newsmen in Asaba, the Delta State capital.

She said in the wake of recent reports of deaths of some football fans, during the semi-final match, won by the Super Eagles of Nigeria against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa on Wednesday, it has become pertinent for those suffering from high blood pressure and heart related ailments, to avoid anything that could trigger attack on their health.

The journalist called on family and friends to monitor their loved ones during the match, while also urging all football fans watching the match to make conscious effort to stay calm throughout the match, to avoid a repeat of Wednesday’s incident.

She commiserated with the families of those who lost their lives as a result of the football match, and stressed the need for regular medical check up.

it would be recalled that a leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Delta State, Dr Cairo Ojugbo, a Corp member serving in Kaduna, a notable Nigerian businessman operating in Cote D’Ivoire, the Deputy Bursar of a university in Kwara State, among others, reportedly died while watching the match.
